【温暖向】那不勒斯的免费咖啡

据说，意大利的那不勒斯有钱的人去咖啡馆一个人会交几个人的钱，自己喝一杯，多余的几份留给没钱的穷人。

我们在一个小咖啡馆里。
来了两个客人，“5杯咖啡，我们喝2个，3个预付”
他们付了5杯的钱，喝了2杯。
“预付咖啡是什么？”我问道
“稍等，看着”
又来了客人。两个女孩买了咖啡，正常的付了钱。
过了一会来了三个律师（原文我猜是拼写错误），要了7杯咖啡。
他们喝3杯，却付了7杯的钱。
我们正聊着，来了一个穷人。
细声细气的问，“有预付咖啡吗？”
这种慈善方式诞生于意大利那不勒斯，人们有钱的时候会预付咖啡钱甚至饭钱，等待喝不起咖啡吃不起饭的人来享用。

I am Italian and I can confirm that this happens in Naples. Naples is a very troubled city and I usually give a lot of advices to foreigners that want to visit. However, even the shadiest bars in Naples do not cheat on pending coffees (they are called "caffè sospeso" in Naples). Coffee is serious business.

"Caffè sospeso" has been going on for several decades (I think it predates WWII), so I suppose that there isn't a lot of cheating and if a shopkeeper tries to scam on it, he's going to be called out on that by its own customer. As I said, coffee is damn serious business. People get pickpocketed, mugged, and scammed all the time in Naples, but they are not cheated on coffee.I have been only once in Naples. I was going to the train station and I stopped in a cafe to get an espresso. I had small talk with the barista, and I mentioned it was my first time in Naples. When I finished my coffee (which was perfectly creamy, tasty, and potent), he asked me how it was. I said that it was good. He asked me "was it a good coffee, or was it one of the best coffees you ever had?". "Actually - I answered - it was one of the best coffees I ever had". He smiled: "that's on the house, have a nice trip".The day the first Starbucks opens in Naples it will be a terrible day.

Actually the origin of caffè sospeso is not necessarily about poor people, that's about sharing happiness. Caffè sospeso was popular even when pretty much everyone was poor in Naples. So when a Neapolitan had a good day, he would buy a caffè sospeso (get one, pay two) to share his good day with everyone, is a bit like offering a coffee to the whole humanity.Usually bartenders keep an eye on caffee sospeso so that people that can afford buying a coffee do not abuse the pay-it-forward system

understand it's meant for people who can't afford coffee, but what's stopping anyone else from ordering a pending caffè sospeso? Is it pretty much a social norm to not order one if you can afford it?

其实最开始的sos咖啡是为了分享幸福，跟穷人没多大关系。sos咖啡在那不勒斯基本上都是穷人的时候也很流行。当哪个那不勒斯人这一天过得特别好的时候，就会预付一杯，跟所有人分享幸福，有点像请全人类喝杯咖啡。通常，酒保都会盯着，确保能负担得起的人没机会滥用这个预付系统。
